We will be using Risse Jupiter 5R dampers again this year.
I understand Toronto are looking at (definitely using?) Romic Twin Tubes.

Ohhh! Cool. This shocks thing is becoming more and more of a headache. No one seems to make/sell properly!

Can anyone compare the Jupiter 5R to a Fox Vanilla RC in terms of reliability (and maybe even performance) for an FSAE car?
We're highly considering running the Risse shocks this year because of the supplier sponsorship. We haven't been too happy with the Vanilla RCs.

No two shocks are the same..... even if they're made by the same mfg!!
Last year Risse gave us a discount, but no sponsorship??! We found their consistency as good it could have been.
The debate over shocks will continue to haunt us.

Prior to coming to college, I raced mountain bikes, both cross-country and downhill.
In 2001, when I joined our team, we were running Rock Shox (we were the first team to run MTB shocks way back when). Drawing on my bike experience, and the team's disgust with Rock Shox, I got us to look elsewhere. Our first choice was Risse shocks, but at $500 a pop or so, we said no way. Then we got our deal with Fox at $112 a shock. The next year, Fox upped it to $224 a shock. This year, I saw the Risse supplier sponsorship and was blown away at the price. From the very beginning, I've wanted us to run the Risse shock - I feel them to be a better shock than the Fox. Plus, they're cheaper by $75 a piece! (and lighter too).
