What are the typical surface temperatures for the exhaust system with a coating or heat wrap?

What are typical engine bay temperatures without coating or heat wrap?

And while we're at it...

How long is a Chinaman?

(Err... Is that even a question??? http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

It is.
And Wanyama67's questions are fair ones for a first year team.
Wanyama67 if you're not on a first year team just go measure your car.
I recommend some temperature indicating labels (the kind that show peak temp, not current temp).

If you're not on a first year team then the answer depends on several variables like engine type/power output, exhaust ducting, general openness of the engine bay, ect.
Temperatures from other teams won't match your car, but they should be close enough to tell you if you're gonna melt something.

Incidentally, I have no idea what a typical temp would be.

(hint: if your cockpit temperatures are super high consider a 'double firewall' wire a 2-3cm air gap.
Even if it just covers your exhaust heads you will see a big difference!)

It will vary all over the place depending on how hard you thrash, and airflow through the engine bay, and what sort of climate you have there.

There isn't a typical figure to aim for, except you will soon know if something is too hot when you start having fuel boiling or ongoing electrical reliability problems.

Trying to keep the heat totally out of the engine bay may be more difficult than just protecting heat sensitive parts by intelligent placement and a bit of strategic cooling airflow around the most heat sensitive systems.

A bit of both is probably the best way to go.

If this goes for a first year team then this should get you to (a rather large) ballpark:

Our fuel tank is maybe some 20cms away from the exhaust manifold, and there's a thin heatshield in between. Our fuel pump is under the tank. Pretty much no airflow around.

On hard testing days (100-150 km's of testing on a hot day) we had problems with a fuel pump with maximum operating temp of 65°C but didn't have problems with a pump with max operating temp of 95°C.

expect surface temp of about 400deg. Coated.

Enclosed monocoque amb temp inside is about 95(highly subjective that is the highest i have seen with little/ no ventilation)

I suspect your concern is heating the fuel...yeah keep an eye on it we have boiled ours!
