Hello,
We are AUM team starting the body fabrication so we are wondering about partitions of Bodywork (i.e. Nose for the impact attenuator ) that must be removed at the static event for the inspection.
That will help us taking a decision in how many part the body will be divided.
Best regards,
Mahmoud Eid

Tech inspection

Generally they ask you to remove the nose, the seat, and if something is weird or I don't know, the ducts. That's to check kill switchs, brake pedal mounting, fuel pump shielding and stuff like that. We (Universidad Simon Bolivar) always use non removable CF panels to close the cockpit to the driver's shoulders and about the leg height in the leg area. Just take a good look at comp photos and you will see plenty different configurations of which you can take to do yours.

Design event

Remove nose and maybe remove a tire or something like a duct if you want to show something special there, or the judge ask you to, from what I've seen.

Cost event

I don't know 'cause I've never actually been to one but I think you don't remove anything there

For tech you need to be able to remove body panels to allow for all the tech-list items to be easily seen.

So the Crush zone needs to be visible / the mounting plate - then from there it just depends on packaging, etc.

If you hide things under the bodywork it needs to come off: E.g. Suspension bolts, steering stops, brake over-travel switch. If they are all visible, then it can stay. Look down that list of items (on the tech sheet) and decide what needs to have removable access then go from there. If you want to be safe..assume its 10x easier for you guys if there is some way to get off your nose cone just in case. And don't hide the battery in some ridiculous spot that nobody can see, because you'll need to move all of that for it to be checked.

Thats exactly what happened to my team at comp ( Mississippi State University ). The battery was sandwiched under the seat between the firewall, and a heat shield that had to be put on later. Needless to say, it was VERY difficult to get off.

For the past two years though, we use Dacron on the sides of the car ( kind of like gluing non-itchy fiber glass on) to cover any holes that don't get covered by the nose cone. Everything in the foot-well is still accessible through the top opening that is left, and we have never had complaints about it.

Mahmoud,
There is a Rule that all items that need to be inspected should be easily visible without the use of instruments such as endoscopes!! And there are 2 places on the Tech Form with a box that says "Items easily visible" or some such. So as the other guys have said, you will be asked to remove body panels so the tech inspectors can see everything they want to look at.

So, the nose definitely needs to come off. Whether you remove it on its own (split it at the Front Bulkhead) or as one piece with the rest of the front bodywork (split near the Front Roll Hoop) is up to you.

Also, during the Design Event, the Design Judges may want to look at certain things, especially if you have something neat you wnat them to see.

Yeah - the tech judges aren't out to really make your life miserable - just check all the items. Battery is specifically called out to see if it is rigidly mounted, and has a hot-terminal cover. So if you can't get in there to see its not held by a big zip tie, and that it doesn't shake everything will need to come out.

When in doubt, just make it semi-accessible, and you're usually Ok.

actually, the last two years we used zipties to hold it in and they seemed satisfied with that! But it was at least two big ones going all the way around it on two different directions. Definitely wasn't going to jump out anywhere
