Hi, my team's working on reorganizing our wiring (so that it's actually nice and neat) and we would like to buy various colours of wire (multicoloured, solid coloured, maybe even numbered? like on PE's wire harness?) does anybody know where we could order some of that at an affordable rate?

Thanks!

You can find the high quality brands being sold on Ebay at a decent price.

My suggestion is to look at various aviation suppliers. ETFE coated wire is much more resilient than ordinary stuff, I wouldn't use anything else on an FSAE car. You could go for something better again (Spec 55 anyone?) but that's more expensive and I believe stiffer as well.

You'll only be able to get white, in general, but I see that as a positive. It means you buy large lengths of various gauges and things end up cheaper overall and you always have wire in stock. Plus the harness looks a lot nicer if you do a reasonable job of it. Multicoloured wiring harnesses look horrendous, in my opinion.

Yes, the fancy aviation stuff is very nice, a good way to cut weight and a bit easier to manage since it's thinner.

If you just want multi-colored conventional wire, Waytek and Digikey are the best sources I can think of.

Check out alpha wiring company. http://www.alphawire.com/. Once you get the part number from alpha, go to http://www.alliedelec.com/ and they are a distributer. I have heard teflon coated is the way to go and that's what we are probably going to do as well.

We may have found our solution for the moment from A&J.

Thanks again though!

ETFE insulation (usually referred to as Tefzel, I believe it's the Dupont name) is better than PTFE/Teflon, it's a bit tougher. You can leave a soldering iron on it for a number of seconds without causing damage, in my experience. PVC lasts about a microsecond in comparison. I don't know if you can actually get PTFE insulated wire, ETFE is more common.
