For the past three years me and the rest of our SAE team has been trying to get our schools support of the program. During these three years we have made three baja cars and one formula car. I worked for two years on the formula car and on the most recent baja car, as did another exformula memeber. The most recent Baja car did significantly better at the competition than the previous cars.

Well our faculty advisor is on sabatical and another prof asked to take over. Our faculty advisor agreed (had been our adivisor for 20 years). Well this new faculty adivsor did not ask any of the current SAE memeber anything. Instead he took it upon himself to put someone in charge of SAE, even though we elected a president for this year. This person had never been involved in SAE. So this professor then got the school to donate all sorts of money for tools and other items. Still they did not even contact the current memebers.

This new president that was choosen by the new faculty advisor thinks that he is god and that the old SAE memebers are miserable failures. He has kept us out of the loop, even when we offered to help him and point him in the right direction. We offered our experience and knowledge, still he ignored us. He has in public and privately should disrespect toward our work. He has admitted to keeping us out of any leadership position. He has lied to the new memebers about what he has done.

I tried to be positive at first, but this school has hijacked our student organisation. The school afte ignoring us when we were working on cars, now they have decided what we did was not good enough for them and they know better. The new faculty advisor did not talk to the previous faculty adivsor about the team. The faculty adivsor even gave a key to the new president and told him to get one of the Baja cars running. Why they did not just ask us to do this is beyond me. He then takes the Baja car home for a weekend and drives it around.

So I suggest that anyone that is on a team that is not exactly thriving, look our for faculty advisors that think they know better than people with experience.

Well the only thing that i can say (since i've never been in that situation) talk to the advisor and say hey all the tools and stuff is great but this is a student organization run by us not you. Your need to get this before it spreads any more or else they are going to force you out and turn it into a big senior project for kids who don;t care about it. and you should tell him to shove his little puppet dictator up his a$$.

But seriously be prepared for things to happen, probably bad.

Obviously, this situation must change. Here is an order of operations I suggest:

1. Talk to your advisor.
2. Talk to your department head.
3. Talk to student government senators and the like (do you get any SG funding?)
4. Go public - make a big noise in the school paper.

The more directly you can resolve your trouble the better. Only use the later steps if the earlier ones fail. Remember, the whole school isn't against you; a few people got into position to take advantage of you. you can correct this, and it IS worth doing.
