We retrofitted an AIM Evo3 logger to our 04 car this summer. We bought an 8 channel unit and sensors for about $2500 (that includes a dash display). They gave us about 30% off on the logger and sensors. As far as the options I looked at, it seemed like the best value since it had a ton of memory (8Mb) and the max sample rate was high enough for our needs.
We were able to go out a few times with it and it worked well. The only complaint I have is that there isn't really a complete hardware manual for the EVO3 logger. It's really simple to set up though and just by playing with the configuration software I was able to figure it out.
The analysis software is really easy to use and has met all of our needs so far and that DOES come with decent documentation. (The software does everything you'd expect including the option to do calculated math channels and export everything to Excel)
I like the Evo3 since you can run it with or without the dash. Our unit was the 8 channel binder connector type. Made it easy to retrofit the car since we didn't have to make a dedicated harness for it and it could be easily removed from the car. Just buy sensors and use individual extensions cables to connect to the logger. The downside of this is that those german binder connectors were hard to find. AIM had the best price for them at $4/ea so we bought them and our own extensions (AIM wanted way too much for their cable extensions).
The other option as far as the Evo3 goes is the 13 channel and traditional 8ch which both have one large circular connector where all the signal wires come in through. More ideal for a permanent installation.
