Hey guys, I have purchased a few books (RCVD, Chassis design, Theory of Ground Vehicles, chassis engineering, Carroll smith's books, etc)

But I guess I have bit off way too much to chew...

I have been looking online for course syllabi that use race car vehicle dynamics (Milliken) and provide power point slides to go along with the text. Like this site:
http://www.me.udel.edu/meeg467/Vehicles/index.html

Bad news is, like my school, everyone has switched to Blackboard and I can not find any working links. My school refuses to offer automotive courses, so I can not use instructor help locally. Is there anyone here willing to let me see their course slides?

I apologize if this is un-ethical.

Thanks.

Tires are really the only automotive specific topic. Everything else can be easily boiled down to simple engineering subjects (statics, dynamics, strength of materials, thermodynamics, fluids... etc), and it becomes your job to apply these principles to a car.

I think anybody involved with a FSAE program can say they have bitten off more than they can chew. I started FSAE 8 years ago and graduated 4 years ago. I'm still learning/re-learning some really basic concepts. But you do the best with what knowledge you have and move forward trying to realize what you don't know, and apply what you do know.

That being said, I don't think notes from another class would be useful without knowing the context in which they were given. They are not going to be any more useful than the book that the material came out of. Plus I think it would be a little unethical to freely pass this stuff back and forth without the professor's consent.

As for the context, like that website, it goes along the book I have purchased. I emailed that professor, but he has not replied yet. Either he deleted it, or is on vacation right now.

If anyone knows of a willing professor, I will ask them to avoid any unethical points you bring up.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Since you've made a mistake I've observed with a number of fellow students, I can pretty much tell you what to do.
First, your mistake: You've purchased way too many books about roughly the same topic.

I know very well that reading reference books can be very very tedious. I often tend to skip pages or chapters if they get too specific. I find it easier to try and comprehend the big picture and looking stuff up when going into specifics rather than memorizing it all in one go. I only really memorize specifics by looking them up very often.
I've observed a lot of my fellow students trying to grasp topics in one big lump instead of trying to learn it gradually. They also tried to solve their lack of understanding by purchasing more books, which only caused confusion.

Just pick one of them and take the time to read and understand the basics. When you've done that, then you can start to think about, if the book you have just read good or if you need to check out another one.

One of the best-kept secrets on the Internet is the Wayback Machine, which you probably haven't heard of since it's not a Google property: http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

If you're looking for the missing PPT docs from the UDEL page above, I just retrieved the aerodynamics part 1 file from the Internet Archive and have no doubt that the other broken links can be resolved there as well.....

Holy crap...that is a goldmine!

Thanks everyone

EDIT:
They only archived half of the ppt! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif still really cool

I am missing ch17-suspensions.ppt, ch7-9-9wttransfer+moment.ppt, and Ch-Katz-4-7-AeroII.ppt

tell you what, RCVD is the best book...take some empty papers and pencil, sit down and do the calculations of illustration yourself along with the book...and if you need some missing data like FSAE specific ride rates and roll rates and stuff, then search through this forum....everything is here...

that is how i understood most of the suspension basics...you need to give time ...

You may want to consider Wong's Theory of Ground Vehicles as an alternative to RCVD.

I have Wong's book too! My dynamics professor has borrowed RCVD and he has offered to teach me it. Only problem now is school has started so I dont have much time to focus on RCVD as I did before.

I also am sitting through a CFD graduate class since they learn Fluent. I hear thats a good way to model the vehicle for aerodynamics. Funny thing tho, all my TA's are in that class.

Would it be possible for you to upload them somewhere so we can download them? Thanks!
