As most tracks run counter-clockwise, front wheel drive on the front right wheel has proven to be most beneficial...

Front wheel drive is better because you always are a wheelbase ahead of your RWD competitors

I'm a big fan of some of the more recent developments with this technology.

We've been having good successes with All Right Wheel Drive. Packing is rather easy; Just one big chain that runs up the side of the vehicle.

I just hope that they keep the counter-clockwise track this year.

Why dont you just run two chains, one on the left and one on the right? AWD would dominate

It's already done.. and people call them "tanks".. Although i don't see a clever way to SEF a turret and a 105mm cannon as main hoop bracing

btw.. tanks often "blow" the competition away

iv heard diagonal drive is the next big thing. just have to make sure your driver is well protected from the chain.

As discussed in another thread, fwd is the best option for accelerating up a straight wall with aero.

Just curious, what happens at the top of the wall?

There's a lip at the top of the wall to send the car on a backward arc so the upside-down aeros now provide lift and the car becomes a sail plane...

What were YOU thinking was going to happen?!!! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

AWD is nice, but it's just so hard to effectively distribute torque to all those wheels. If we could get the rules to change up a bit, this idea could dominate:

Simplified AWD (http://www.maniacworld.com/One-Wheel-Motorcycle.html)

Ah yes the Deakin diagonal-drive sidewinder.

Too bad that its a two-year car, I've heard great things about your work. Looking forward to seeing you guys in '10.

KS, Front drive cars pull
Rear drive cars push

Some guys like to pull but most prefer to push.

I think you are more a FWD type of guy

And never forget the biggest advantage of fwd: You have rwd while driving backwards!

Can put in a handbrake for the rear wheels and FormulaSAE-Drift.

FWD... less drivetrain loss from the foot pedals to the front wheels.
