Hi
could anyone be kind enough to tell me the oil Pressure range for an 2002 F4i and also the highest and the lowest which i can blindly follow when i start running the engine

secondly do burnt coils have any physical deformation on them and if not how do i check if they r alrite

my Engine ran well in the begining , when i ran it last week i found that my engine went all the way till 8000 rpm and then the fuel relay was cut by the HISS and turned back on after dropping a few 100 rpms wat could be the reason ?
i m running stock ecu

please help me out i m a first year team member

There should be an oil pressure switch with the F4i, you can hook it up to a big ol light or somethin and be sure that you're cool with oil pressure.

If you hunt around on the net, you should be able to find the service manual for your engine. They're pretty much indispensable if you don't want to be guessing everything all year.

Off the top of my head, oil pressure is 71psi at 5500rpm (someone correct me if im wrong) with a mechanical gauge we see 55psi at 3000rpm and it ramps up to 71psi by 5500rpm. This is measured at the oil pressure sender switch. The checkvalve in the sump is set to 71psi as well I believe.

In the manual they should also have tests for your coils, if their burnt you'll find that your internal resistance will be far too high.

Like Pete said, there should be a manual somewhere online, they are extremely helpful when diagnosing any problem like this

So it will run up to 8000 rpm, then cut out until the revs drop a little? Didn't you already prove the coil(s) is/are (sorry, we run a single, so singular coil, I don't know the fours very well) fine?

Every coil I have ever had experience with has two functional abilities: 1) Works, 2) Doesn't work.

A faulty/broken coil may not exhibit physical damage, however physical damage will almost certainly cause a faulty/broken coil.

with my experience with the F4i coils, when they burn out they smell like apples and come apart (2 or 3 pieces)

I know this is a bit off topic, but for the teams out there, when logging oil pressure, what brand of pressure sensors do you use? We have been using Siemens VDO pressure transducers and some people actually dont recommend those because of their inaccuracies and slow response times. Anybody care to agree/disagree?

we use the sensor that AIM peddles, i think it is a VDO 0-100psi sensor. I haven't done much research into them but it seems to work fine for us.

Motec sells an 8-bar (0-120psi) pressure sensor for $80. It is actually an oil pressure sensor from a C5 Corvette. I don't have the part number right now, but if you search around on the web you can find them for less than half that (but be prepared to make a thread adapter - see page 38 of the Motec catalog).

I specified this part for Elan's IMSA lites car (for cost reasons) and have had marginal life.

The Corvette part is 16mmx1.5. Check out the Buick version for a smaller thread.

I remember reading a few threads like that. But we have used the same one for 2 years now with no issues.
