View Full Version : 5 link suspension? TEC-II software?

I'm in brain storming mode here. Does anyone have any comments on or pointers to resources on 5 link suspension geometries? I like the anti-dive possiblities but everything I read just says (loosly paraphrased) "design is hard and requires a computer".
Also, we have been playing with our old 02 car recently. Does anyone recall how to find out what firmware version a TEC-II has loaded and how to find the software to talk to a given version? Unfortunately, the only copy of the software which I personally knew about was on an old (it was old in '02) laptop which has since been submerged under 5 feet of water in a flood.

That's hilarious... and true of most suspension types. Computers aren't required, but they allow us to do more sophisticated analysis and save time on iterations.

I've been flirting with the idea of suedo 5 link suspension for some time now. Won't be on this year's car, maybe next year. I'm not confident on how to analyse it and currently don't have the time to learn at present, but from observation i'd say that it's the way forward.
Unfortunately i can't guide you to any resources. The most extensive literature on 5-link that i've seen is a single illustration in Miliken. However, if anyone knows of any good resources for 5-link i'd also apreciate it.
Infact, i'd apreciate some guidance to some more advanced suspension and vehicle dynamics books, we don't have the resources to invest in softwear and i'm sick of definitions, concepts and terminology with no explanation of the theory or reasoning behind them (cough...roll centers...cough).

There are really only 3 types of WinTec software that I am aware of for the tec-ii. The first is DOS based, and it's name eludes me. Then there is Wintec and Wintec2.
If you take the TEC-II apart the chip should say what software you need. But it is probably Wintec or WIntec2, not difficult to try them both.
