Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let the forums know about a new event that we are running next week.
It's called DESIGN to WIN.

It is a 3 day symposium and workshop focusing on the use of CAE tools in Formula SAE/Student applications.
This event is being hosted by Monash Motorsport with the support of ANSYS Inc, LEAP Australia (local ANSYS trainers and resellers) and SAE-A.
Being the first time out we are focusing on ANSYS only, but are interested in expanding the range of CAE software providers in future years (Altair, Solidworks, Star CMM)
We will be presenting:
- Lectures from the staff at LEAP to explain the fundamentals of FEA, CFD and Optimisation. Also best practice techniques and industry applications.
- A range of new ANSYS tutorials which myself and the Monash team have developed to teach our members how to undertake the analysis of common FSAE components and systems.
The highlights include:
- The design of a space frame chassis and prediction of torsional stiffness using FEA (beam elements).
- The use of bolt pre-tension and contacts in the FEA design of common clevises, brackets and driveline components.
- Methods to analyse Uprights and Hubs
- 2D CFD analysis of a parametric wing profile in ground effect
- 3D CFD analysis of a parametric wing with endplates
- Full car CFD analysis
- Coupled fluid structure interactions (FSI)
- A range of introductory Electro, Thermal, EMag and Design Explorer (Optimisation) examples.
A major part of symposium will be invited presentations from the attending teams themselves. So far we have representatives from 9 Australian and New Zealand teams scheduled to present. We are not planning on publishing these, but will if teams want.
They will each discuss how they utilise CAE methods in the design of their cars, and what capabilities they would like to develop in the future.
We hope that this kind of open discussion and experience sharing will allow the FSAE community here and abroad to work towards the development of best practice approaches to these common issues.
We have received quite a bit of interest from overseas universities interested in getting copies of the teaching materials. We will be hosting all of these tutorials online after the conclusion of the event, for any interested teams to download.
