Can anyone shed me light on what sort of positive stops are usually used for the steering components?

We put a large washer under the jam nut on the clevis threaded into each end of the steering rack, and a tubular spacer over the rack, made to length to stop the rack at a certain point.

In mini baja (mini ha-ha?), we ran a car without stops. The rack would turn until the pinion ran into solid shaft. It was interesting after a bit having a pinion with 4-5 teeth missing.

Any chance of any drawings of this set up?

Good luck asking Denny a question. He hasn't been on here in years (that post is from 2004 http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ). What he's describing is basically just a fender washer between the rack end and the clevis that interferes with something else during its travel so the rack can't move past that point. Do you really need a drawing of that?

In the past I have run a sandwich structure of big fat O rings separated with flat washers.
It limits rack travel, but it also absorbs some shock if the front wheel crashes into something.
