Rules say that muffler should not be more than 60 cm from the ground. Is it the muffler exit pipe that should be within that height or the entire muffler case that should lie within that height. \
Secondly the tangent envelope rule that every component must lie within the tangent of main roll hoop and tyre but if the mufflers extend behind the rear axle upto 60cm(again as offered by muffler rule) it would get outside it. Wont it??

So is this rule applicable on muffler at all?

In my packaging our mufflers are goping above the A-arms. Therefore leavng a 2 inch clearance for suspension travel and then usoing yoshimura muffler is creating diffulculties in complying to these rules.

That rule is not applicable on the muffler. Many teams run mufflers outside of that roll envelope.

Genius,
Please read the Rules a little more carefully!

With respect to your first question, one has to ask:
- What is the title of Rule 3.5.5.2?
- And what are the second and third words of the second paragraph of that rule?

With respect to your second question:
- Joel is correct, but
- Again, what is the title of Rule 3.5.3.9?
- And what specific components are listed in the first paragrpah of that rule?

Finally, this is not the forum to get official answers to rule questions. There is a published procedure to get such answers from the Rules Committee. Please use it.

Tech guy.....its a simple question with a simple answer....there is no reason why it cant be asked here.....

and you can't ask questions about rules on the official forums because Mr. Royce will tell you that you need to email questions to the proper people and that the forums are for "discussion" only. Never you mind the fact that some of the best discussions I've ever been involved in or heard were started by a simple question...

EDIT: And Tech Guy's syntax and tone are very similar to some of the replies on the Official Forums...interesting...

I would far rather see questions like this than some of the other stupid crap that's been on here lately. And we have to remember, not everyone has built (or even seen) a FSAE car before, so what seems like common sense rules interpretation to veterans may not be so straightforward from a rookie perspective.

For example, without knowing the reasons behind the muffler height rule, one might wonder if it was legal to have your header and/or non-exit end of the muffler more than 23.6" above the ground. It is by the letter of the rule, but they might wonder if the intent was simply to dictate the position of the exhaust outlet, or if it was assumed that the outlet would likely be the only portion of the system to be higher than 23.6" (thus making the intent of the rule that all exhaust parts be below 23.6").

Just a thought.

Hey techguy,,,
why are you such a douche bag?
the kid had a simple question and you respond with
an unnecessary attitude. I hope your car fails the tech inspection and you can't race! And then it breaks... catastrophically!

So much for people being help full on this forum...

The only person being rude here is you HorsepowerGOD!

I think it was at all fair the answer TechGuy provided. For instance as pointed out by Chris this is a 'discussion' forum and any advice given here should be treated as such and not HARD EVIDENCE or APPROVAL!

He simple directed him to the fact that the FSAE rules clearly state the nature and intent of the muffler position rule and that any clarification should be directed to the official channels for advice that can be seen or acknowledged as HARD EVIDENCE or APPROVAL!

Secondly i note that you are a newbie to this forum. And quite possibly the very person you are noting as offended by TechGuy's post. Its a pitty someone of your age or position couldnt be more mature, considering you actually recieved a reply that provided a solution not 'go through the search function' which clearly you havent!

If you had you would have noticed this topic discussed HEAVILY before.

Thirdly i ask we vote people like this off as its becoming too common an occurance and really is not neccessary.

So next time be greatful for the help you receive!!!

repeatoffender please maintain the decorum of this forum, for if the veterans put such a post how does it matter if someones a new and putting naive questions. By ur nick name on this forum it seems u r here for the fun only.
I think its clear who are the ones who needs to be vote off.
Tech guy thanks for at least answering my question, the ruls which at first were seeming to confuse me now looked more simpler when i read them again.

(P.S. i am not new to this forum but making the car for the first time so dont want to be disqualified with such costly mufflers.
Secondly, I am not horsepowergod)

Geniusanurag,

I fail to see where i have not met the 'decorum' of this forum. Actually im pretty sure most senior members would agree ive been pretty leniant. I could have just told you to get stuffed but i didnt. (oops did i just break forum decorum?... wait that rhymes, that and making several assumptions about my name; i must be enjoying this!)

Regardless of whether it is your first car or not, If you have been a member for as long as you suggest you would have known the answer to your questions by now!

You would have also known that such questions need not be asked but searched and that 'internet' or 'sms' english is not at all aspired here.

I think you have been let off easily. Asking simple questions to which the answers have already been posted and asking them in the wrong location is nothing to be proud of nor solid ground to stand and try to ridicule me either.

That is all.
