Hi,

Has anyone got the dimensions for the spline of the tripods in the Taylor Race tripods??

Any help would be appreciated http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Do a search. Craig or Scotty from Taylor posted all this info.

search for "taylor race tripod"

I have cut a bunch of these and taylor info is a starting point but you need to cut each spline to fit each tripod since I have found some differences tripod to tripod.

Also, if you need a cutter I think I have some extra.

Hi Killer http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I already have that information now but still do not understand the terms ACCUAL, BASE DIAMETER, SPLINE PITCH, PIN SIZE

Any help as usual is appreciated http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Or you can do what I did: get out some calipers and go to town.

You need a 45 degree cutter and there are 20 splines. I don't remember the major and minor diameters though, just use calipers because I found some variation from tripod to tripod.

You really need a micrometer and two(2) .080 pins to properly measure pitch diameter. The info that Craig has posted about pitch diameter is a starting point but I have found a few tripods as far under as .006 on pitch. If you measure the angle you need to cut it's actually 104-105 degress (Craig posts 108???). With any spline connection you want to fit to mating part.

You may be able to get away with a double angle 90 deg cutter. We had cutters custom cut.

Hello, these are the dimensions Scotty gave me:

TRIPOD

MAJ .880
MIN .809
MAX ACCTUAL .0756
PRESSURE ANGLE 45 DEG
DIAMETRICAL PITCH .8333333
SPLINE PITCH 2448
BASE DIAMETER .5892556

Don't understand where this 106 degree cutter idea is coming from ??

Arron,

If you read the post by Craig you will understand. They cut the splines in the tripods at 90deg. But that dosen't make the spline you have to cut on the halfshafts 90. If you take a look at a tripod through an optical comparator you will see the male spline of the tripod measures 104-105 degrees. Thus that is the profile you have to remove to make the tripod fit your halfshaft.

As I stated before I 90 degree double cutter may do the job.

A 90 degree cutter should work fine for the loads you are puting into it, apparently not ideal, but cheap http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
