How much money, per year, does your team collect outside of the funds you get from your school? (ie sponsors and alumni donations)

Last year we raised $7500 cash on our own, not through the university (just straight solicitation). That was one of my big goals as cap'n last year: find more cash money.

All of that cash was from brand new sponsor sources as well, and some of the sponsorships have already been renewed for 2004. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For our projected budget of $10,000 we recieved $1,000 from our department. We have raised about $7,500 in cash and materials.

As a first year team, we have no idea what our total cost will be for the cost report, but we are looking in the neighborhood of $15,000. I was trying to compare that to competitive teams, but I cannot find any numbers. The results posted on the official website only lists the points scored relative to the winner, I was wondering if anyone would share their cost number from any previous years.

Cost Report Figures
2001: $12,103 1st
2002: $12,346 3rd
2003: $13,283 32nd

Keep in mind vehicle cost is only about 30% of the cost score.

We typically bring in about $3500 from outside the university, that is only cash (ie no part donations, etc.)

Cash? Good Lord! We have a great deal of material sponsorships but I can't imagine what it'd be like to raise that much cash!

We raise just shy over $20,000 a year from outside the school. No Charlie, its not all cash but mostly materials and services. We get quite a bit of CNC work donated (ie uprights, body molds, etc) as well as a great deal of little components. That kind of stuff adds up quick. We also found that companies as well as individuals are more willing to donated their time and services than an outright check.

$23,000?!?!?!?! Holy crap! Who are you asking for money that we aren't?

We raise a good amount of cash through hard work. Probably 1/2 of our "budget" is cash, the rest sponsored goods or services. Of the cash, maybe 1/3 is alumni and department donations, the other 2/3 is fundraising activities. We host autocrosses, do software usability testing, work for Parking Services at all the sporting events, work for Safeco Field selling beer at Mariners games, sell t-shirts, etc.

We raise about $15000 CDN per year. A lot of it comes from solid sponsors. There has been fluctuation over the past couple years with the tough economy, but overall, things are going good. Our budget for this season was $14000 CDN.

On the cash topic, do any teams have team members help pay for travel and accomodations by charging to attend competition? We have decided on $300 CDN per person, which is enough to cover hotel and a bit of fuel. What other ideas have teams had on that?

Everyone on our team is required to mail sponsor letters to our family and friends. That's 20 team members writing at least 20 letters each. This is the greatest portion of our fundraising. Also, some local companies (like auto parts shops) give us cash. Finally, some of the larger national companies donate because our alumni own or work for them.

From our own school, we have only received money from our student senate and a little from admissions for bringing the car to admissions events. This totals about $1500.

We are also trying to sell our first year car to the school for $5000.

I recall reading that Wollongong raises $60,000.

We raised about $15,000 in cash and materials this year. $10,000 was from one sponsor. We also recieved a little over $14,000 from our school. We are trying to leave some money for next year, though, since we will most likely get our school funding cut off (for the most part) at the end of the year.

I know that so far the cash that we have raised for this car through donations is about $4,100. Our most reliable sponsor is Team Financial Aid Racing (term stolen from Courtney Waters). I don't keep track of how much money students spend out of their own pockets. I don't keep track of cash value for materials, parts, and services that get donated. I would guess that our car has been built for less than $6,000 cash.

HB,
Those uprights weren't exactly donated.
