Hi,
Can anybody recommend where I could find a small electric oil pump to scavenge oil from a turbocharger. From looking at Monash University's website, I noticed that on their 2001 car they seem to be using a scavenge pump. Does anybody from Monash have any info on this, thanks.

small pumps for oil just dont exist!
people have been afraid to use electric for oil pumps to do the higher chance of failure and the catastrophic results if an oil system goes bad.
ever seen oil flow through a fuel pump? http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i'm not sure how long it can run, but i've done it before. you may get 5 PSI out a 55 PSI fuel pump.

Fuel pump to pump oil? Did it work well? Because this is turbo oil with a temp of approx 120-130 deg C it would melt the internals of the pump.

We tried using a fuel pump, it didn't work once the oil got to temp and the viscosity and air content changed (lots of bubbles were present). If you are using a garrett turbo, try getting some of their carbon seals.

i did the oil through a fuel pump as an experiment a few summers ago during an internship. we were trying to an alternative way to oil a drag bike engine without mechanical loss. the oil i ran was room temp...i see your point that it would melt the plastic internals when it got hot. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
back on subject, you're going to have to position the turbo where gravity can do its work. we're in the same boat ourselves...

The pumps from Mazda rotary engines (12A and 13B) would be a little big for your application, but would work with an electric drive and small housing.

the monash 2001 car did have a dry sump system, but the scavenge was mechanical. It ran an electric water pump, which may be what you are referring to.

Try looking at a holly red fuel pump - I'll have to doublecheck, but I believe that's what we're using.

Look up what the turbo drag bike guys are using. I talked to one tonight and he said he used an electric pre-oiler pump out of the summit catalog.
-edit- found one at
