Is there something on the site that won't allow a new member to post photos? Sorry if it's been asked before, I couldn't find anything....

All pictures and links have to be approved by a moderator, a process that has taken a couple days for me at times.
This system was put in place to combat an overwhelming number of spammers on the site.

How do you tell who the moderators are? They could always seek more moderators so that posts containing links and pics will be released quicker. Any thoughts?

Is the need THAT pressing?

I think I should be a moderator so I can delete all the shitty Indian posts. This place needs someone to crack the whip.

Why not just set up a separate forum?

I have honestly considered it. I wanted to start to put together an FSAE website with tech documents and other thing. I prob won't do it until I graduate grad school though.

It would be cool to have some more in-depth, focused technical discussions and exchanges. Seemingly the thing that's such a pain in the ass for FSAE students is the turnover rate and how much time it takes to understand how all the systems work. On our team there was never much knowledge to begin with, much less knowledge transfer. Just some ideas floating from year to year (many of them bogus). Then you inevitably got stuck with "Ok. We need a suspension. Go."
Since the final competition results rest equally or more on organization, management, and preparation rather than technical prowess.. I suspect more open communication would be beneficial to the field on the whole.

How about an fsae Wiki. We have our own team wiki and it works pretty well (although I'm pretty useless at updating it myself).
This would make it easier for newbies to find information that has already been discussed and provide more room for in-depth technical stuff. Wiki's also have a discussion page for each thread/topic so we can all sill argue about pointless stuff.
It's also moderated by all members, so you can delete whatever you want Mike...

The wiki is a great Idea I think. Who hosts your wiki?

It's a good idea, but ultimately the success is going to come down to people giving a shit about it.
The importance of documentation and separating fact and data from opinion is easily lost.
Wouldn't hurt to try though.
Even if it were just a collection of tech tips...
"Here's why chassis rigidity is important"
"How to measure your wheel rate"
"Effects of toe and Ackermann"
"Why roll rate distribution is important"
"Commonly available wheel weights and rigidity"
Blah blah.

Go look up a Wikipedia page on the most uninteresting topic you can think of, say, "Fork".
Look at the discussion page. People have a hard time agreeing on forks.
Now apply this to a student design project, a passionate sport (motor racing), and a medium through which anyone can voice an opinion.
I see it being a train wreck of edit wars.

Mike, I've wanted to do a technical website of some kind for a while, so if you want any help, let me know. I've got some web experience (nothing professional, but functional)

FSAE needs a community more like this one chiefdelphi.com (http://chiefdelphi.com) That site is for the the FIRST robotics competition, a robotics related student design/build competition.
It has a very active forum running vBulletin, a system for uploading photos and whitepapers and community news.

getting back to my original question.....is there any way users with a large amount of posts can get it removed? Obviously someone with 200 posts is not going to be trying to post links as a spammer, just a thought. It would make it much easier for those that are on here all the time....
