our team got the Honda CBR600 engine, but we dun have the Yamaha R6 engine, we want to compare two of them in term of the heigh, the lengh and the width. Could any1 tell me the differences between these engines in term of size?

Thank you very much

I don't know any numbers, but they are very similar in terms of size.

I think the R6 is a little bit smaller of a package, just from what I have heard. I don't have any data to back that up though. I am not a huge fan of the stacked gear box and its higher center of gravity. Also the R6 is extremely difficult to find this year for some reason. I would say stick with the CBR unless you can come up with a huge benefit to running the R6.

Go to a motocycle dealership and look at the bikes on the floor. One time we actually were allowed to partially disassemble a bike to get good measurments...dont' expect this but it doesn't hurt to ask to have the bodywork removed.

we did go to a dealer to check out yamaha R6, we found yamaha R6 was approximately 6cm shorter than honda cbr600

performing that comparison is your job as an engineer. you cannot demand the research others have put their own time into.
you could possibly make a few requests for information, but you cannot make demands and expect anyone to want to help you out.

Now that I've been involved with two similar teams, one using the J505E R6 and one using the F4i CBR600.

I have had a good look at both engines and they both have decent list of pros and cons.

I prefer the CBR in some terms, mainly apparently shorter/stumpier build (lower cg?), and the design of the bottom oil pan is a little nicer for intergral dry-sump systems. I don't like the variable magnetic reluctor REF/SYNC's and the stock tooth configuration has to be modified.

The R6 has better intake mounting system (bolt on) and the shifter linkage/drum is in a nicer place if you are into alternate methods of shifter control. The R6 also uses a pair of hall-effect sensors for REF/SYNC and its tooth configuration is supported "out of the box" by most programmable ECU's.

The list goes on forever, as I've spent a decent amount of time in both engines. I guess alot of the pros/cons are subjective about what you actually want to do with the engine.

This Forum has been going for several years and has a huge wealth of info on it. Please, please learn that the Search facility is your friend. You are far from the first to ask 'which engine is best'. Entering the Words 'R6' and 'CBR' returns 30 results and in less than a few seconds you can find most of what you're looking for.

There are CAD models of both engines out there and maintenance and tech manuals easily available for both engines. Which one is 'best' is open to endless debate and depends entirely on what you are looking for from an engine. Learn to be an Engineer!

The two motors are extremely similar. While there are some slight differences (see post above) all of those can be accounted for wihtout too much difficulty (eg install hall effect sensor in CBR, install dry sump in R6 and lower whole motor).

I'm not exactly sure (as I don't have a reference here), but one thing that has come out in discussions with a friend from my old team, is that there might be a substantial difference in the alternator output of each engine...something probably worth the research if you want to run high draw electrical.
