I am wondering if the reduction inside the throat of a carb will count as a restrictor. I found a carb that has a throat that is right on 20mm. I know the judges praised a team that used a roller barrel throttle last year. The carb is a slide style so the actual "throttle plate" is located just ahead of this throat restriction. Sounds like it meets the rules. Anyone?

Sounds like it to me. Thats seems to be a good find.

Just make sure you don't spend all day disassembling it in tech inspection to allow the judges to stick their probe in it...

Yeah, that would be a pain. Its a slide carb so there is a direct shot to the throat. Might have to detach the venturi.

You may want to think twice about that Rob. I don't know if you've had any propulsion or compressible flow courses, but the geometry at and around the throat of an orifice at choked flow has MAJOR implications on the flow moving through it. Any groove that the slider may slide on will almost certainly induce a shock prior to sonic flow, as well as further restricting the flow once sonic is reached.

As a side note, it looked like Georgia Tech used some sort of a ball throttle. If anyone has used anything like that, How did you get used to the nonlinearities in flow allowed? I would have thought massaging the throttle would be quite difficult.

Dont have the slightest my friend. All the guys on this team are freshmen and just hitting their junior year like me. I'm learning though. Not really concerned too much about power though. Don't really see much in the way of grooves ain the "horn". Barrel throttles are the rage over in England.

We know who they are but they don't talk to us based on the whole judge/student thing. They are like 15 minutes from campus. The only help we might get from them is a little off a book or something. Why do you ask?
