How is everyone getting on ?

Materials should be here this week for us, bits are already being made in the machine shop

Well...our new engine (05 now from 99-02 R6) is on the dyno and has run a few times with some idle mapping. I've found it pretty amazing how easy it's been to set up. So much less temperamental than the older carbed engine.

95% of our chassis tubing has arrived and we'll start the build later this week. We're still waiting on a rule verification though so some aspects can't be completed till that's done. Other parts like uprights, wishbones and hub centres etc should start fairly soon too.

Frame is getting there, almost done from the front back to the roll hoop.

Hubs, spindles, intake runners and injector bungs, all done.

Lots of other stuff too.

We're way behind...

Chassis is 3/4 fabricated, just the fiddly stuff like pickups, diff mount, engine mounts, left and poping it of the jig and welding some of the hard to reach areas.

Should have our first run on E85 running a pressure transducer and thermo bosses on the inlet and exhaust this weekend, running a new test plenum too.

Also by the end of next week should have a new restrictor and my the end of dec the final plenum shoud be pulled out of the rapid prototype machine.

Finger crossed the new bits might make it to the autosport show.

We've just managed to get a room from the university that we can use (no welding allowed, smaller than the average bedroom, shared with two other student projects, all the way up on the first floor), full detail design is on its way (or thereabouts...), still a distinct lack of real support from the university - just your average year of FS at Cambridge!

Having said that, in some ways I am enjoying the 'privateer spirit' that we have at Full Blue Racing...

Chassis is designed, steel ordered (our goal is to have chassis done at the end of christmas break)

diff + axels (have to figure out how to connect them to volkswagen drive flange now)

steering rack in, uprights done

turbo, intake + exhaust materials in/fab starting in a few weeks

We will be testing our 08 suspension geometry, steering geometry, intake, exhaust, and motor in the 07 car in the next 2 months (assuming no snow)

Looooooooooooooong ways to go as of now

We are hoping to have the 08 car done and driving at the end of march. Last year we were close to being done in march.

Sorry to hear you're still having issues with your Uni. I would have hoped all the press you guys got (and bad press the Uni got) they'd have sat up and listened by now! Glad things are on the move though. Best of luck for everything this year, and you know us lot at Brum are here to answer any questions if you need us. We WILL see you at comp :P

Thanks for the good luck message Mike, we look forward to seeing you at comp, remember to bring enough cooking utensils for two teams next time http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We're currently in the middle of the design-phase, entering the winter-stasis and preparing for the Australian event with the PW2.07.
Starting the new season with a lot of recruiting and sponsoring work, we gathered a lot of new members and few crucial sponsors. We've already got a good idea what our PW3.08 will look like. Our designer gave us quite a good inspiration. After Australia it's going to be pretty busy again, as we enter the final construction phase.

@Nik:
I see. So that's what your tragedy in Hockenheim was all about. I'm sorry to hear that.
I wish you good luck and look forward to seeing you again next year.

We currently have our chassis 95% done... just missing all of mounts for the engine and linkages.

Despite some problems we initially had with our haltech while tuning the engine, we have a pretty good baseline map that needs some fine tuning with some 1/2 throttle and 1/4 throttle runs.

Right now it is down to a lot of machining! Realistically we are looking to have everything for a rolling chassis either sent out or done ourselves by mid December and should have a car ready for testing by February at the latest.

We have enough $$ to finish the car but will need to keep up the sponsorship and fund raising game to raise the money to pay for the additional expense of the trip to CA instead of MI this year.

I'll post some pictures when we get them!

Good luck everybody, hope to see you out there!

This year we are set to have the first drive on 15th of January, again indoors since it is pretty cold out here. At the moment this deadline feels like a tall order, eventhough the parts are being manufactured as we speak.

Anyway, the engine is humming beautifully in the dyno and guys are verifying their simulation results on intake/exhaust.

The frame tubes are being cut and the several suspension parts are being machined or are under cast process.

We had some issues with the drivetrain earlier but it seems like we have figured it out now.

We are confident of having all the parts in our workshop before christmas so after that it is pretty much "a simple puzzle"...

I“ll put a new post here when we have some new manufacturing pics on our website
