I'm trying to model my chassis in Ansys and am having problems with the spring/dampers and specially the bellcranks. i know that i have to use the combin7 element for the bellcrank but the real constants and element definition are quite confusing. was wondering if someone could shed some light on the subject.

I know the questio may be a bit naive but i'm new to ansys and the help files are the only source of information and are quite confusing at points! Please help
thanks in advance

Hello Nitesh.

I can't say I have tried using the combin7 element. I got around the bell cranks by making a small assembly of truss elements. I got around the bell crank "falling over" (if you imagine a single 3 element triangle, where the elements do not transmit moments) by putting another 2 elements in. They go from the pull/push rod node out a new node, on the same axis of rotation as the bell crank, and then back to the dampener/shock node.

I used this to look at loads in the wishbones my self. If that's the sort of thing you're trying to achieve and above doesn't make sense PM me and I will send a dodgy drawing or something.

Hope this helped.
