I've been pouring over catalogues and can't seem to find a suitable firewall connector. I'm looking for something that can have a connector on either side and has about 24 pins.

Any ideas?
Ben

Go to a salvage yard and find a car with a suitable connector and see if you can cut if off of the harness. I think fords may have a connector that squeezes around the firewall.

Check the Deutsch connectors from
Ladd.

www.laddinc.com (http://www.laddinc.com)

Sealed, waterproof, and really easy.

the try 2 12 pin DT series flange mount
or
this set
DRC12-24PA 24 pin flange mount receptacle
DRC16-24SA 24 pin plug

This stuff is really nice.

Try Performance Connection Inc.

They specialize in connectors and wiring for the motorsport industry. I got some stuff from them when I was a DAG. You'll need a special (expensive) crimping tool and positioner to work with any of this stuff though.

I have to second this suggestion. These are the connectors that we use for our ECU and they are virtually indestructable (ok, within reason). If you ask nice and tell Ladd you are an SAE team they may sample some.

Thanks for the suggestions.

We went with a HD series 24-29 Deutsch connector. The receptacle has a jam nut to tighten against the firewall to facilitate removal and comes as a kit with all the pins, ect.

I've never tried the HD series. Should be pretty nice, though.
