For those of you already planning on attending this year’s SAE Congress at Cobo Hall in Detroit, or for students in the Detroit/Michigan area, this is to let you know that the SAE’s Motorsports Engineering Activity has organized a full day of motor sports papers and presentations on Thursday, April 14th.

There are 11 technical papers and 2 other presentations. Five of the papers are on race car safety, including one from Kettering on FSAE Crash Attenuator Performance, three are on aerodynamics, 1 is a gearbox paper, and the last is on composite suspension arms on an FSAE car.

Kicking things off at 8.00 a.m. as the Keynote speaker will be Doug Duchardt, the VP of Development at Hendrick Motorsports. The safety, powertrain and chassis papers will follow in the morning. After lunch, Ben Bowlby of Chip Ganassi Racing will give a presentation on the DeltaWing Project. This will be followed by the 3 aero papers, and a Chat with the Experts session from 4.00-5.00 pm.

Students who are SAE members get to attend Congress for Free. Students who are not SAE members have to pay a whopping $25 to attend all 3 days of Congress!

If you are interested, go to the SAE web site sae.org, click on 2011 World Congress and Exhibition and then on the registration link.

I hope to see many of you there.
