Thread: Standard impact attenuator

  1. #1
    Hey all

We have just purchased the standard, Fsae recommended, impact attenuator and are currently facing the problem of how to attach it to the car. we're thinking bolts may be our best bet, however we are unsure of whether we are aloud to put bolts through the anti-intrusion plate (I've had a look through the rules and its not very specific). Has anyone done this in previous years, or have any recommendations as to the most effective ways of attaching it?

    thanks

Bonded by glue would be a doable choice

Glue the foam on a plate and bolt the plate to some tabs. There are lots of fancy ways to do it but this works.

We use hook and loop. Seems to work.

in regards to this, what level of testing did you need to do? is it really strong enough?

I think you need to think about how easy/difficult it will be to remove the anti-intrusion plate to get access to the pedal box (and what else you may have in your leg bay). You might want to also consider how easy it is to remove the bodywork around the leg bay, as this will affect the results to the point I mentioned before.
