Thread: team budgets

    hi all,
    Just curious,
What kind of budgets do you guys have for your fsae project, and how much of it goes into the intangibles such as transportation of the car et al. also how much does ur univ/college put in financially.
For us, its eqt to about 25000USD with a huge chunk goin into things like airfare and cargo('bout half the budget) which leaves considerably little for the car. College does its bit by giving the cargo fare but after a killing delay.
    As i said, just curious.

Even half that actually a reasonable budget. More always helps but I've yet to be on a team that has $25,000 cash in a year.

Our school usually gives us ~$4000 a year...

The rest is donations and sponsorships...

Not for an international team. That will barely cover travel expenses. Though I'm not sure if the poster means the college also pays to transport the car, or not. But airfare is a killer!

After sponsorship and aide from the school, we have about $25,000. This includes transportation and travel too. The previous year we only had about $19,000 I believe.

if you need more money, raise more money. we have a group of people whose only job is to call up people and beg for money. our group leader has been on the team for four years and writes very good proposals that get us lots of money. other teamates have connections that can get us free stuff or a fat check from a rich bastard. our "business team" kinda sucked last year and we ran out of money toward the end of march. thus, we had to raise more money. when i didn't have the money for the parts i needed, i went out and bought them myslef. i think the engine team (which i was not a part of) spent over $3,000 of their own money. we kept all the reciepts, and showed them to our dean, and then the university forked over enough to cover our hotel rooms and trailer (i think, i'm not really in charge of these things).

another thing that we tried was "internal fundraising." each student was supposed to come up with $100 in parts or money by a certain date. some kids went out and got sponserships, some kids hit up their parents, and some paid it out of pocket. if you have 20 kids on a team, and everyone pitches in $100, you can buy some nice parts.

it all comes down to how bad you want to build your car, and how sick you want to make it

True. The college does pay for the car transportation but there's a huge cost assosiated with importing goods and we have already ended up spending more than 2500USD just for getting stuff to us. Apart from that getting any money from the college is actually tougher than building the car.

We're $22,000 in the hole, how's that for a budget?
