Thread: Roll dampening dimensional analysis

  1. #1
    Waiting on both my System Dynamics book and RCVD to arrive in the mail.

    What is the correct dimensional analysis for determining critical roll dampening?

    Linear = 2*sqrt(massSuspendedAtCorner*wheelRate)

    I have a roll resistance in N*m/deg (or N*m/rad) and roll moment of inertia in kg*m^2..

    Anyone lend a hand? Had a kind of bad freak accident in the shop the other day.. sittin around here bored with nothing to do till finger surgery on Wed.

    Hey mate,
    I would be interested to know that myself. Did you end up finding the answer in the text?

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Critical damping in roll will be equivalent to 2*sqr(Ix*Kr), the variables being your moment of inertia in roll and the roll stiffness.

    Yea wound up working it out, damping is in N*m*s/rad

    Tom,

    what exactly are these books? Do they concern car suspension dynamics or just dynamics in general?

    One is my System D textbook. RCVD (Race Car Vehicle Dynamics) is the bible on the subject.
