Thread: Wollongong Dominates in Australia

1. #1
The University of Wollongong team dominated the FSAE-Australia event in Melbourne this weekend.
Their new car won design, acceleration, autocross, endurance and fuel economy, and were second in skidpan. No other team came close.
I do not have the full results, but will post when I can get them.
Best of the visitors was RIT who didn't make the finals in design which shows the level of the local cars.
The quality in Australia is now at least as good as the best in the US and the UK, and all this after only three years.
Reliability was way above accepted levels, with only a couple of catastrophic failures.
The Japanese car from Tokyo Denki University might just start a whole new trend when it comes to Pontiac in May. This tiny single cylinder car honked around all day, but lack of development and unskilled drivers kept them off the ultimate pace. The best single we have ever seen.
When I get more news from Australia I will post the results here.

...definitely interested in seeing the results...congratulations to Wollongong. A very impressive car last year, and sounds like it's only getting better.

Nice to see locals winning the local competitions too.

Wollongong won, of course. They had ytested everything, and could quote to the judges tested figured for long and lat COG (lower than axle height)and polar moment !
Uni of West Australia were second with a car probably as good as last years Wollongong car. RIT finished third but did not win a single event.
Design was (not necessarily in order, Wollongong, UWA, Swinbourne RMIT (both from Melbourne)Monash were fth with an aero car with unsprung wings (and the race number 88)
RIT finished 6th with the same car that was third in May at Pontiac and Second in the UK in July.
If these teams cooperate and fill a container for Pontiac, we will all have to watch out as they now have 6 months of testing time across the Aussie Summer. My friend has emailed me some pix but I don't know how to post them.

Sleeque,

You can send the pictures to fsae@fsae.com and we'll put some up in the photos section of the site.

We're still working on that section but we'll get these up ASAP.

Here is a link sent from Australia to the pics on the Australian list server.

Some interesting looking cars out there. I think the Aussies are doing good.

PS please excuse the link to what might be described as a competitive site.

I tried the link, but it seems to have an error. Any other links i can go to?

...are posted on the FSAE Australasia site.

It's a bit confusing, since it doesn't compile the final points for you.

We're wondering also if skidpad and acceleration were run in the wet? Times seem off, and the rules are the same as we understand it.

The results can be seen in detail on this site

http://www.racetime.com.au and follow the links

Interesting (but odd) Aussie motorsport site.

I just tried the pic link and it works for me. Maybe you have to sign up or something.

And yes, the event was a wet and dry event, so the SAE people have had a little experience now. I am not sure when the rain stopped, but all the pictures are in the dry. I was told some teams ran in monsoon conditions in acceleration and skidpad.
