    Fire Extinguisher System

    Dear All,

Can someone please explain if an on-board fire extinguishing system must be mounted on the car or if only a pair of hand-held fire extinguishers carried around by a team member accompanying the car is good enough? I know the rule book "encourages" to have an on-board plumbed extinguisher system. Also, driver egress time is a maximum of 5 seconds. So, a driver is not expected to be doing the extinguishing himself. So what is the final solution? We are a first year team, and are having a difficult time. Please do help us! Thanks in advance..

You do not need to carry a fire extinguisher on board.
The organisers are more interested in the driver being unhurt, hence the requirement for a certain level of fireproof clothing and the requirement that every driver has demonstrated their ability to exit the car in 5 seconds. (In a real fire, we have seen the drivers exit much quicker!)

As for the car? The fire marshals will extinguish it, but it is considered of little importance when compared to the driver.
