Make the sprocket, fix it, load it, Press Calculate, I think that works!
Thats the wrong procedure!
Select your rotor(brake disc) first and then design the wheel hub! Cheers!
I heard another team was making them out of tissue paper! Ultimately they ran out of it when the judges were behind their ass! :\
General things -
Who are your sponsors? How much money did they give you? How much you were in deficit? How the University fucked you up.
You know, quite the stuff the judges like to read! :\
@ Megadeath
Doesnt it depend a lot on bond area too?
Lame.
@ Megadeath
Any idea about the ball park figures?
We had two circular surfaces with the same diameter! So I'm guessing the clearance is in microns. Will check though anyway.
Clearance as in?
Agreed! Butterfly on the wheel is a bad idea! You either have it on a manual hand shifter or dont have it at all!
Go for GCIC!
@ Megadeath
More details please. What kind of glue was it?
I tried bonding it this year using some grade of Araldite. It did turn. But after 3 lock to locks, the bond broke and the housing...
Hahaha! Last year the manufacturing guys made the whole rack and pinion housing inverted which made the wheels turn in the opposite direction!
We did think it was a good idea to test the driver's...
No undercutting issues with less module?
We did the same thing. Made a wooden framework and then we used heavy duty stretchable plastic over the thing. Then we laid. However resin systems have to be taken into consideration here.
In one...
Exactly, why?
Yea, make sure that when the driver turns the steering wheel, the wheels turn as well! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
We already have a gear hobber! He also has hobs of various modules to cut my gears. The only issue is the module, the reduction in module also makes the material vulnerable.
Make a trip to Mumbai. Thats your only option. And yes 50m of each dimension is correct for him to sustain a business!
Lesser module makes the teeth spacing sparce and the gear depth becomes lesser. Maybe we need to go back to secondary school to learn trigonometry!...
Already done that. But a module of 1.5 seems pretty less. Probably someone could throw light! Gear depth of 3mm hardly gives any area to mesh, the teeth may also bend!
Hello,
What are the general modules of the gears on custom cut Rack and pinion used by teams? Also the depth of gear if its possible? I've calculated the depth to 3mm, but I dont feel its enough!

Youtube banned us for using copyrighted music! :P
Agreed. But the force was around 20-22 kgs! So we considered 25 only!
Hello,
We are looking to implement the hand clutch this year. However we do not wish to use a hydraulic or a pneumatic assisted system. Its pertinent that we use a directly actuated cable clutch....
