I had this problem as well - and in my case I had to layout the folder structure the same as in the default folder.
That is you need one folder to designate the class (i.e. ANSI Inch or Metric)...
I would say it's about half educated optimization and half gamble. You said you would rather the 500lb car in this case. Would you also rather a 600lb car that finishes 94% of the time? or 700lb car...
