Hi Doug,
Hmmm..., so a few old-farts occasionally coming here to mumble and grumble about stuff maketh a quorum for a forum? Maybe... :)
I still pop-in here and at other FS/FSAE related sites...
Should anyone still be reading this I feel compelled to make some comments about the recent 2019 FSAE-Australasia competition.

I didn't bother going this year, mainly because I expected...

Ambrose,
Yes, indeed, my fake news correction above may be even faker.
To repeat my excuse, given the lack of any "program" listing the basic cars specs, I didn't bother taking any notes, so...
Further to the "fake news" edit in above post, it is worth considering why ECU used rockers to drive their hydraulically-interconneted-roll-springs, which, incidentally, act as "longitudinal-Z-bars"....
Here is a link to some photos I found on UNSW's FB page.

Noah,
A "mission statement", or "team motto", that I suggest would benefit all teams is,
"Do LESS, but do it BETTER, and do it SOONER!"
Rule 1.1 challenges the teams to...
BTW (3) - Had a closer look at TU's aero on Monday, with the car up on stands so I could see underneath. They have world-leading aero-downforce (of CzA = ~6.7 m^2), but...
... MUCH MORE IS POSSIBLE...
FAKE NEWS - From various sources it seems that a certain Herr Hellmuth (two ells, not one) Hirth was active in German engineering around the early 1900s, built aircraft engines, and founded Mahle....
Noah,
I would have liked to do a much better coverage of all the teams and cars, similar to the "Planet-Z" reporting I did back in 2013/14/15. Sorry, but SAE-A made that all but impossible this...
CORRECTION - The Munchen Skid-Pad time I gave in earlier post was only for one of their laps. I guess their other lap was the ~4.90 s, thus giving them an official averaged time of 4.758 seconds....
Sunday morning - some light rain overnight.

Doug,
Hey, I was serious!
In fact, I am so liberal I would love listening to some Country, some Western, AND The Blues Brothers, live. Especially the Rawhide theme song, complete with flying...

=======================
Sorry, not enough time to do a full report, so just some highlights.
(And did I mention that NO PROGRAM has been printed?!!! That is, no...
Harry,
Ok, one more time, just for you.

William,
You miss the point.
Your original survey was biased because it gave the respondents a very easy option to support the "...let's blame Claude and Z for all our problems" side of the...
William,
Well done. You have a bright future in marketing, politics, or any sort of "post truth" career. You have just given an excellent example of how a "market survey" can deliver ANY result...
Nils,
I have now had a quick look through that KAZ presentation, and ... it is RIDDLED WITH ERRORS! The equations are nigh-on worthless. As are the numbers, such as the suggested Damping Ratios.
...
Owen,
As Socrates and his pupil Plato spelled out so clearly two and a half thousand years ago, the surest way to the "truth" is to engage in a DIALOGUE. Or as Plato called it, DIALECTIC.
...
Owen,
The Snowflakishness is strong in you.
You have difficulty finding the toilets at a trade show? Seriously? And would you expect help with the clean-up afterwards, too?
As for the grumpy...
Nils,
Ahh, poor Nils!
The sad thing is that you have started a thread with a very coherent first post, which I am sure a few years ago would have developed into an interesting and useful...
Tim,
You have given two excellent examples that support my case.
1. WHY BOTHER? - It used to be that students who either wanted to do well in these competitions, or else just wanted to...
Ahh, the "Snowflake Generation"! The precious little darlings have been brought up to think that regardless of how stupid or wrong they are, their mistakes must NEVER be mentioned, and they are...
Rory,
Yes! The first step to understanding VD, IMO, is being able to watch a car, either real or modelled, do its thing. As such, your above type of "map" should be one of the first outputs of the...
Rory,
Yes, that is the way I generally prefer to do things. Three points below to explain the "why":
1. These "mathematical models" are tools. And as with all tools, different people have...
