UQ Racing launched our two cars last night. It has been a challenge this year as the majority of the team are fresh to FSAE. The concepts for both of these vehicles were only laid out 10 months ago....
How is this any different to a 600cc sport bike engine running the stock airbox? I think your key word is "lunatic" and whether it's 600cc or 1200cc they are going to do it anyway.
This is the proposed method of track marking provided by SAE (I did not draw that "racing line"):

So that's why I failed statistics!
Your post got me interested Kev and so I decided I had to compare countries, even if I felt a little bit Trumpish doing it. I used the data from the top 250 teams on the FS combustion world rankings...
Metal is not an option as it needs to insulate. The less metallic components inside an accumulator the better.
I don't really understand your (correct) point about bolt relaxation. Are you saying...
Our team has recently been picked up (luckily) on facebook for a rule that we missed in our accumulator segment design.

It does look like they might have made a mistake there. It mentions Section T4.2 as a "Notable Change" but it seems unchanged.
Besides the removal of the completely redundant 2016 point:
"T4.2.4...
The best way to understand the shifting forces are to go and take a motorbike for a ride, or ask someone who rides.
This needs to change, along with efficiency scoring.
Kev,
Surely the ECU system also has 3-5x the toe base normally seen when teams try and squeeze ~25+ degree of wheel lock into 10" wheels.
My thoughts are, none of these are game changers. A few more engines become appealing but power stays the same (why not remove the redundant capacity limit completely?).
More points for...

Either your upright is unfinished or you have not specified you mass properties correctly. Under 400g is hardly even a bearing housing.
The Corvair wikipedia page has made my day.
We have joked about buying a whole TRX450 quad bike and making an SAE spec chassis for it, but recycling as many components as possible.
Would the team expect to do well in design? probably not. ...
I agree 100% with Claude. I would also like to add that at the last few FS competitions I have attended I have noticed a growing trend of people using off the shelf simulation software. This is just...
You're correct. I was pointing out that the front hoop bracing tube can be one of the three front bulkhead support tubes. The rules read as if 4 tubes are required - to me at least.
This rule is fairly poorly written but from what I can see your frame is fine.
There is no good clarification of "front hoop bracing" vs "front bulkhead support structure". I submitted a rule...
There were many teams unhappy with the safety of the track. We never asked for it to be slower. You can thank Rob Chadwick for the speed. We asked for the tyres to be removed. It's fun to pretend...
Hi Pete,
Just curious as to what the UWA definition of "not really interested" is?
5 or 6 guys from Griffith built a car this year with essentially nothing from their uni but a shipping...
Everything except the suspension and wheels is similar to previous years. I would actually argue that this car is simpler in many ways. I cannot wait to have a good look at it, they build exceptional...
I saw the Griffith car for the first time tonight. It is an exceptional effort for a first year car with minimal university support and a very small team. Going to impress some people!
Multiple cars with unconventional suspension such as beam axles and mode separation, a custom engine, some of the best aero packages in the world and nearly a third of the field ranked in the top 50...
