Speaking of Nationals, who all is planning to go this year?

UMR is planning to be there, I'm sure KU will be there again even though it is a long drive for them.

UTA you are going right? Who will be driving this year (Kohler is not an acceptable answer)?

It's in Topeka, Kansas. This year it is going to be at the recently redone Heartland Park, a mile or so down the road from Forbe's Field. Its September 26-29th, this year FSAE should be Thursday and Friday (28th & 29th) so no National Warm-Ups for us due to classes http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yea. We will be there with 05 and 06. and might have an entry for FSAE/L. The drive will be a killer again (30 whole minutes).

And again this year we are extending an invite to any teams that want to come but can't afford hotels, we will figure something out just email me at EOHLDE@ku.edu

Neil, you're going to miss warm-ups because of classes? Get your priorities straight, young jedi.

Yeah, well we'll see...I'm not counting on going though.

10th on a super tight auto-x course and fastest raw time on an "open" endurance course...imagine what she'll do on a nationals course! I'd really like to see UTA there and have the showdown of the aero teams.

Neil, assuming we both get out of classes to go, I hereby issue a double or nothing on our $10 bet from earlier this year, cause I can already tell you I'm not going to win that one...

SDSM&T are you guys interested in crashing at Clancy's house again this year? If so I'll pass the word on to him if you haven't already been in contact

Oklahoma is looking foreword to its first nationals. I just hope we can get our administration to let us take the car for the week.

UTA is planning to attend with two cars, 4 drivers, F05 and F06. And yes, Erick Kohler is hoping to attend.

OU, let me know if your administration doesn't want to let you go and I will help encourage them. It will be great to have you there.

As much as maryland would like to come I don't think we can afford it (time wise and money). Wish we could though, it is a lot of fun!

Where can we find the SCCA's rulebook on FSAE class? I've been looking for a while and I can't find it anywhere

SCCA rulebook http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/2006_solo_rules.pdf

pretty certain the rulebook reads that the cars have to have met the rules for the year it competed or the current year. Not that it matters unless you plan on pissing off the competition

edit: it may be a supplemental class and not in the rulebook... it doesn't matter so long as you aren't trying to run an a-mod car

The rules in the SCCA Solo Rules Book are wrong. Last year they started out ok, but then rules from F125 got inserted. This year, they have gone back to the orignial rules before we got our own class. I think they are aware of what the rules should be. I have talked to them and will do so again. Here is what the rules are supposed to say:

Formula SAE

Cars that are in compliance with the rules of the collegiate Formula SAE national engineering competition. To be eligible for SCCA, the car must have been an official entry in the FSAE competition any year since 1985 and met the rules of that year. The car must meet the recent restrictor rules (20 mm for gasoline, 19 mm for E85, or 18 mm for M85). The car must meet the current aerodynamic rules (powered ground effects are not allowed).

Awww Neil, I am hurt (not really) http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Besides, I am not elligible for the Dr. Bob Woods Cup. It's definitely up for grabs.

We are going to be on the new super smooth asphalt this year, right? Any of the Kansas or UMR guys driven on it yet????

Erich Ohlde

KU has driven on it but it still had dirt from construction equip. KU OU and UMR will be driving at the divisional on Aug 5&6.

Looking forward to it.

We're up to 12 entrants! That's a decent sized class. We're currenty larger than AMod and some of the Prepared classes. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

if we can get enough entrants SCCA has the possibility of giving us our own heat.

While Dr. Bob and Kohler aren't watching I'm going to sit in their car, as soon as I do that their engine is bound to "ventilate" all fluids.

On that note, does anyone know of an engine that will run without compression, oil, or water for a long period of time? I could really use one of those.

Travis R
09-07-2006, 10:26 AM
Is this a trick question? You want me to say electric, and then you're going to say that's a motor not an engine. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

an F4i with special low friction coatings on all the bearing surfaces. We've successfully run an F4i without water for something like 20 minutes hard (all first second gear, short course) no problems. Somehow we have magic piston rings that don't want to fail. we've done this on 2 cars... oops.

Kyle,

I know how you feel. I am way excited! I was dreaming of Nationals last night. It's all I could think of for the past week and a half.

The '06 was still having problems with fuel tuning issues, so we decided that we are going to bring '04 and '05 instead. We know what the problem is now (oscilliscopes are amazing), but it's too late to get it going for Nationals. We have made some adjustments to '04 and '05 which you might remember had some fuel tuning issues of their own at Texas AX Weekend.

I don't know if you know any of the A-mod drivers, but Todd Bowland is fsae alumn and from what I hear he is a really good driver. If you've never been to Nationals before, you are definitely in for a show in A-mod. Also, Joe Cheng is unvailing his new A-mod car which should be a sight. I know we run opposite them, but we might still be able to see them from our side of the track!

Neil,

We are hoping to get there around 2-3 or so. We barely made it through registration last year when we arrived a little late. So, we are leaving a little earlier this year in hopes to accomplish this. Can't wait to see you guys and the new car!

Ohhh man, was Nationals an exciting nail biter event this year. That was way more intense than SAE in my opinion.

Just so people know what a tire warmer is, that is your co-driver and his runs before yours. Although, it seemed like as a second driver I sat around longer than my co-driver did before his next run. Anyone else feel that way?

That happened last year too. My co-driver barely had the minimum time that you were required to wait between my run and his. All in all, an excellent and very well organized event. 21 drivers, clearly we are headed in the right direction with Nationals and FSAE entries there. Let's keep it up and start the campaign for next year!!!!!
