I heard a long time ago about how F1 brakes are made. As I recall(I believe inaccurately), the ceramic discs are heated to over 800 degrees when they're made. Does anyone know the exact temperature for a fact?

If I'm not mistaken, formula one brakes are carbon.

Ceramic disks (as used by Porsche on road cars) are made by heating carbon disks to about 1400 degrees C where silicon compounds are drawn into the disk to make Silicon Carbide - very hard!

The Carbon disks (as used in racing cars) are formed at about 1000 degrees IIRC.
