$24 for grandstand or +$46 (total $70) to add infield access, reserved parking, and food in the GRM/Hoosier hospitality tent.

If I decide to make the trip all the way down on my own dime, I'll spring for the upgraded tix.


So what do you guys think? Should I go? Have any of you guys gone before? It seems like it'd be a blast.

I went in 2002. That was the last year of the 'true' prototypes (a la ALMS). Before the tube frame Daytona Prototypes. There's much less technology in the series now, but it's still great to watch (seen them race at Barber, Watkins Glen, & Miami). And the competition is probably better.

I'd definitely recommend it. You don't have very many opportunites to see a 24 hour race. Daytona is a great haven from the cold weather up there too. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Strolling the garage around hour 20 or so is a pretty awesome sight. Nowhere but endurance racing do you get to see such major repairs being done on the clock. And with the variety of production cars in the lower classes it never gets boring.

I'd like to go this year but it's a long way from the west coast.

The 24 Hours at Daytona is great fun. I'm more of an ALMS guy, but 24 hours of sports cars is really great, no matter what the series. The DP cars are evenly matched and now that they've worked out all the kinks the class is very competitive.

I'll be there with a media pass covering Speed Source and their fleet of RX-8s in the Grand Am Cup. They'll also debut a tube frame three rotor RX-8 to compete in the GT class of the Rolex Sports Car Series next year. It probably won't be ready in time for Daytona though.

Definitely a good idea to upgrade tickets as I'm sure you'd like to be able to see the cars up close.
