Design Judges Needed for FSAE-MI '11 Do you have the 'Right Stuff'?

Formula SAE is looking for a few good men & women. Actually 15 or so! The Design Judging segment of the FSAE competition in Michigan is expanding this year. As a result of going to one hour long design judging sessions http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif for the 2011 competition, we are actively seeking the right folks to become new Design Judges.

Who are we really looking for? First off, you must be a college grad… who majored in engineering. Past FSAE student competitors or event volunteers will get preferential consideration. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We would like you to have a minimum of three years of job experience in the real world working in the automotive or motorsports industries. If automotive industry, we would strongly favor post-education motorsport involvement.

You not only have to be well qualified in your area of expertise, you also have to be a person of good moral character, a good listener, and excel at interactive verbal communication. You need to be someone who an engineering student can look up to, and demonstrate the qualities needed to be a good mentor / teacher. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You will be required to be on-site for the entire three day competition (May 12-14, 2011), and yes we sometimes put in some long hours. You will be serving alongside some of the brightest, most talented engineers in the automotive and motorsports industries in the US.

This help wanted ad worked fabulously well. Tony & I would like to extend a hearty Thank you to all who replied. We had more than enough great applicants for the few design judge positions we had available.

Unfortunately, for this year (FSAE-MI ’11), we have to cut-off any additional applicants. HOWEVER, we would like to remind all of you past FSAE/FS competitors that the invitation to volunteer to help at any FSAE/FS event is always extended. We are always on the look-out for sharp engineers who don’t believe in being boxed in! If you have an interest, and think you have what it takes, drop us an e-mail around January. That’s when we start planning next May’s Design Event.

Even if you don’t think you have what it takes to be a design judge, come on out and volunteer to help out with any other area of a FSAE/FS competition. EVERY person you see helping to put on a FSAE/FS event is an unpaid volunteer. We do it because we enjoy it, and we feel the obligation to give back and help the next generation of engineers coming along behind us. (For me, at least, it is an opportunity to rub elbows with some really sharp engineering students! And hey, I’m not afraid to admit, I learn a few things now and then from those same students!)
