L-3 Communications – Combat Propulsion Systems is a market leader in the development and manufacture of heavy-duty military engines and transmissions. L-3 CPS is expanding its market presence with a line of high performance engines and is in need of several engine development engineers to grow with our team.

L-3 CPS is located in Muskegon, MI, 5 miles east of Lake Michigan.

Description of Work

- Responsible for all activities associated with assigned Internal Combustion Engine Test & Development projects.
- Conduct engine tests: accurately compile and analyze recorded data; recommend additional testing if needed;
- Implement engine and/or components improvements; present recommendations and conclusions to engineering team;
- Understand how to complete a heat balance and address cooling requirements for engine and components
- Define test cell instrumentation required to complete test
- Conduct failure analysis, write corrective action reports
- Document test requirements and write test plans based upon test objectives
- Apply engine design and operation knowledge to determine tests needed to meet specification requirements

Skill Requirements

- BS Mechanical Engineering with experience in I.C. Engines Test and Development - Required
- MS Mechanical Engineering with experience in I.C. Engines Test and Development - Preferred
- Proven capability of applying advanced knowledge of engine fundamental concepts, with high level of analytical ability a must.
- Proven ability and drive to make technical decisions, and initiate and complete assignments with minimum direction.
- Experience with electronic engine controls and diagnostic trouble shooting - preferred.
- Experience with Rotary engines a plus
- Experience with diesel engines a plus
- Understanding of typical instrumentation, data collection, and analysis associated with testing internal combustion engines a must.
- Proven ability to work within budgetary and schedule constraints, prioritize tasks and plan effectively.
- Ability to work on multiple power train related projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Power Point, WORD, EXCEL)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate ideas, plans, and results effectively via presentations and written reports
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
- Must be capable of acquiring a DOD security clearance
