For those who complained that a midseason rule change to force wet weather tyres on us was too expensive - my only response is, I'm hoping you weren't planning to do FStudent.

The entry fee is £1000 per team of 10 people for Class 1. Each additional team member at the comp is £25 each. Therefore our team of 17 will cost us £1175 or $1645. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

When did they post the entry fee amount? I was looking on the site this morning and they still haven't posted it there. Also, have they announced the venue for this year?

We went to Formula Student in 2000 (3rd overall, 1st endurance) and in 2001 (10th overall, 1st skidpad). We registered last year, but couldn't make it due to lack of funds to pay for shipping over. We were planning on it for this year, so long as we can find ourselves a cheap shipper. But an entry fee that high really puts a wrench in the works. What are they thinking charging that much money?

Thats a lot of autocrosses for us to go to, or a set of rain tires, or a lot of things.

I think they e-mailed all the teams who competed this year with the details.

As for venue - It's Bruntingthorpe again as far as I know. we're testing there tomorrow actually.

I have to say I was very surprised when I saw the entry fee for FS this year. How can a 300% price rise be justified? Assuming a full turn out, that's at least £48,000 - maybe they are building a new circuit!?

It would be good to have a cost breakdown from the organisers so that we can try and understand where the money is going...I'm starting to wonder whether it would be cheaper to go to FSAE instead!

Difficult for a medium to low budget team to even consider that. We're looking at a minimum of $5,000 shipping, plus $1,000 airfare per person, plus a $2,500 entry fee. (all values canadian $$) It would cost us as much to go to Formula student with 8 people as it cost us to build our car last year.

Downright scary, but the entry fee is just an additional unexpected cost. I'm sure to some teams the difference between $13,000 and $15,500 isn't that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

That is pretty shocking. I also think they ought to be making this public somewhere, as Auburn is looking into the English competition and I've kept a close watch on the official website.

Anyone know when the entry deadline is?

March 1 I believe. They are only sending the info on the competition to the teams that were there last year. If you want the info, you need to contact them directly. Their website is pretty worthless.

That is quite a significant entry fee. I'm not entirely sure, but I think last year it was around $500USD.

I'm not sure if this will limit any North American Teams going over, however, I'll tell you it was a great venue!

Have any of you guys considered coming to Australia in December instead of the UK. The registration fee this year was $550AUD, which is about $300US. You will get a couple of months testing and development after the competition in May rather than just going straight to the UK. We have a very high standard of competition, down under, so consider coming to OZ instead of the UK next year.

Eddie,

We are currently in final exams. This is why the University of Toronto does not attend the down under event, although we've had several invitations to come down and compete, we'd love to....but unfortunately can't.

Next year, I'm gonna try to work something out with our Dean to reschedule our team members exams so we can make it down to FSAE-A.

Same deal here. FSAE-A falls right into exam week. Plus, it costs a lot more money to fly a car to australia than it does to england from the US.
