We're running an MBE ECU with an ignition coil from a Ford Escort XR3i. We have experienced problems with main fuses blowing in the past and are concerned that a coil designed for a 6500rpm engine is breaking down at 12k+rpm and causing the problem.

Have others experienced similar problems? Also could we get some feedback on what sort of coils other teams are running?

Hi Ben,

After you blow the fuse, is the coil still good? Is there still the same resistance on the primary side of the coil? If the resistance has changed, you have probably damaged the insulation on the inside of the coil. I have done this before by charging the coil for too long each cycle (too much dwell). The software in our ECU allows this to be changed. Also, we have always recommended Accel coils (part number 140403) for everyone using our ECU. They have worked great in the past for FSAE.
