Wondering what teams are using for mufflers this year. Last year, I developed a pipe that tested at 94 dB on our YZF 600 in Detroit. It weighed 4.2 lbs (ti can, stainless innerds), and flowed 110 cfm at 10 in. of water on our flowbench. For comparison's sake, a stock pipe flowed a scant 63 cfm and a Hindle straight thru pipe flowed about 185 cfm.

For this year, I'm trying to drop weight some more and maybe up my flow numbers. Curious to see how others are going about it. Especially interested to see who has passed sound with an off the shelf pipe, like the Yoshi pipes.

I'm also going to work on a louder pipe, since we got 'complaints' at SCCA events that our car didn't sound pissed off enough to match its image http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

We passed sound with an older Yoshi last year... but I believe the judges messed up as they tested us at only ~7600rpm if I remember correctly. We weren't about to point out their mistake if there was one.

We haven't tested Hindle for flow, but we have a Ti Stealth pipe, and it got us down to 103 last year.

Our Muzzy carbon can is supposed to weigh 3.5 pounds. (I haven't personally weighed it yet.) If you watch E-bay, you can pick one up with a few scratches real cheap. Carbon fiber is definately the lightest muffler.

we got a coast fabrication muffler last year. we didn't actually run it because it was too loud, but we think it was because the engine was tuned for our supertrapp. you can check them out..

they are supposed to be SCCA legal (95db) and they are a straight-through design. under 4 pounds. they also give an SAE discount.

SCCA sound measurements are taken at 50 ft, not 2 meters.

If I remember correctly from my tenure at Yosh, the Ti baffle with the Ti sleeve was lighter than the Carbon sleeve on the Ti baffle. We could make the Carbon combo lighter but at the expense of durability. Besides Titanium is quite a bit cheaper.
