http://www.hoerr-racing.com/ has an off the shelf unit that they've sized for SAE size cars.
Also, Chassis Shop sells steering racks.

We designed our own.

Anybody know if there is an American distributor for Titan Motorsport? I know some of the UK teams have used their racks.

A steering rack isn't that complex to make. You can buy the pinion and rack out of industrial supply catalogs (MSC etc...). The case can be manual machined in 3 parts if you need to (Use an end mill to make a track for a rack-house to slide in the bottom, machine a hole in the front top piece for the pinion/steering shaft to go through, the other piece is almost a flat back plate). There can be made light, and for VERY cheap ($10?). We get no funds :-(
